You can stop debating the top speed of the Slingshot, it's been reached thru a VERY long dyno pull in an NA unmodified and untouched Slingshot. The brave man who did it, evaporated along with the rear bearing. Now we need to figure out how to get rid of all this air and friction.

My SS is doing 1,000 mph right now, sitting in the garage, "in theory"...

OK. If you really want to get the Slingshot moving I have a way to do it. And this would be way more fun.

Rent one of those fancy planes that has the drive on cargo areas. Take it up to a height of 3.107 miles. Then toss it out of the plane. You will reach 700.161mph.

I installed (with a LOT of assistance from Kenny_H) the rear QA1 shock (the two front shocks MAY be here tomorrow as they were delayed in SC with the floods and bad weather), but I swear it picked up at least an additional 25 usable horsepower. If that's true, when the front ones go on, it should have another 75 extra ponies under the the loud pedal. Added to the 300 horses already there, and it's getting real close to that magical 400 hp number. Another new rear tire, a few more goodies from Ben @Tricled, and the Gen 2 mats from Noel @CycleSprings, and I should be there

If we were to set it on fire then push out of the plane what would be the probability of hitting a South Florida Polaris dealer?

Here's a bigger pic of that dyno pull. You can see the top speed of each gear also in this picture.

1st - 38pmh
2nd - 62mph
3rd - 91mph
4th - 138mph
5th - 184mph

Guess the Slingshot needs a new body design and some kind of slippery new nano-grease.

I bet it still needed half an hour to get to 140.

Hey does the speedometers work when its on the dyno drum? It must not. There IS a governor at 160mph.

Did 135 couple of days ago in 4th. That was it wouldnt go no more. I can hit 120 easily. But after that it struggles but will get up to 135 with no wind and cooler temps help also. I was with my wife and she had gps on to verify what the speedo was saying.

At 135 your flying but I would love to get it faster. 180 would be awesome.

I think having it on the dyno and then it pushing its own weight and wind, temp, enviromental and traffic conditions limit way to much.

I got 2 areas by me not alot of police just county cops and both are strait away two lane about 9 miles long so its easy to open it up and see what happens. But for the disclaimer it is very dangerous and at that speed one wrong move or blown tire and my wife starts cashing in life insurance.

Rab does yours go faster with turbo. Or does it just get up to speed faster. I know the exceleration is awesome seen your videos. I mean I could get a turbo but is that going to improve my top speed or just how fast I get to 135.

No not really. It makes pulling thru the gears faster. As far as using a turbo to pull yourself faster in 5th,,, it will, but all the systems i have seen are really designed to shine in 1st - 4th.

In 5th I can get all the way down to 35mph and pull myself pretty quickly up to 135 without having to downshift. But once the crappy aerodynamics start affecting the SS its just a hard pull to get much more speed out of it.

I'm sure if you had a death wish and a slight downward sloping road that was 3 miles long and somehow you had a 10mph tailwind you could probably get up to 150mph with a turbo SS. One thing is for sure. A stock SS wont gain any ground in 5th so its definitely going to be a boosted SS that keeps climbing in 5th.

One thing to remember. 5th gear is prettty much an overdrive gear. It's not there to get faster. Its just there to bring the RPM down and cruise.

So the answer to your question is a yes to both situations ,, yes it will absolutely help you in 5th gear to climb in speed. But not anything like it does in 1st - 4th.

I would also say you are correct in saying it mainly helps from 0-135mph.

130... The aerodynamics are being pressed "HE..HE...."

I would not feel safe much past that without better airflow understanding. Crazy things begin to happen on such a light vehicle. Our Mini Cooper s is the same way.. It the higher speeds it just does not feel stable...

Just an opinion from the seat of my pants... :p

I wonder if doing these high speeds and having some kind of failure causing severe injuries will put the SS under the microscope for more regulations. You know how people love to jump on the bandwagon and try to regulate every move we make. Hell look at the regulations there trying to impose on weapons ect. Please consider how your actions have consequences we all have to deal with. Just my opinion! Thanks. Please drive accordingly.

Hopefully not. Sportbikes exceed 200mph from the showroom floor now and they probably kill 100 people a day.

Everybody needs to make sure their equipment is in top shape. Always check everything you can because their is so much you can't check....

I agree with you troubleshooter. Im not making excuses. And its not a regular thing I do. But boys will be boys and I try to be alone and traffic free as much as possible. And believe me my wife doesnt like me doing it. She knows how I am in the thing. So much so she upped the life insurance on me a week after we bought it. But its like my step dad rides bikes and hates seeing guys spliting cars riding the shoulder and doing wheelies. It puts a bad taste in peoples mouths about bikes in general when they see that kind of irresponsible riding.

I had to take out 500,000 in term life to add to my 100,000 in whole life when I started riding years ago. Let just hope she never gets to cash those life insurance checks..

You never know what will happen. Accidents are never planned. But many more people will be killed in auto accidents than they will on motorcycles. And people die every day just walking slowly down a sidewalk.

RABTECH, I highly agree with you about sportbikes doing super speeds by young idiots who sooner or later meet the Reaper. There are way more accidents on sport bikes than Harleys. I just don't need anymore regulations by Big Brother. My life is regulated enough because of stupid acts of others. I drive mine with respect and caution and still have plenty of fun. Maybe it's because I'm older and wiser. No harm is intended to anyone.

Hey guys do you think they may start to regulate marriage?
I have a good friend who explains marriage as a movie where the hero dies in the beginning.
I bet marriage has killed more guys (spirit) than any machine..

I think it is just human nature to push things to the limit.
Not that that is the right thing to do!

Marriage is a great institution. But then again, who wants to be institutionalized for the rest of their lives?
